National Marine Dredging Company (NMDC) was established in 1976 as a dredging division of ADNOC. Later, the Board decided to form an autonomous dredging company reporting to its own Board of Directors. As a result of this decision, NMDC commenced operations in its own right in 1979. It is now a national company with the Government of Abu Dhabi owning a 40% stake and UAE Nationals holding the remaining 60%. It is registered as a public company and trades on the Abu Dhabi Stock Exchange.

The vision of NMDC is “to be the best marine dredging company in the world through superior financial and operational performance”. Even though it has its roots in Abu Dhabi, NMDC aspires to expand in the international market. The mission of the company is to provide attractive returns to its investors by providing cost effective and high quality service while maintaining environment protection as a priority.

NMDC’s modern premises include multi-discipline workshops and slip-ways, fully supported by administration and technical departments in Mussafah, Abu Dhabi. It has a subsidiary office in Zayed the Second St., Abu Dhabi and, through these offices, conducts its business successfully in and around Abu Dhabi.

“Our operations have grown to a level where we dredged over 40 million cubic meters last year. We have been dredging the seabed near the shore creating navigational channels, expanding beaches, creating artificial islands, and constructing new public beaches on the Abu Dhabi Corniche. These are indeed remarkable and beautiful projects. Currently we are undertaking a prestigious project for Aldar Properties that requires the creation of several artificial islands. We are also involved in their "Coconut project” informs Ahmed Hamad Nasser Al Mazroui, General Manager of NMDC.

Presently NMDC has about 1030 employees. The staff include professional and technical engineering personnel supported by finance and administration department. Says Al-Mazroui, “I think the key for us is to support our employees as they are the most important assets of the company. Through them, we deliver quality service, respond to customer requirements and deliver projects on time as per client specifications”.

Dulsco Abu Dhabi is a registered supplier of personnel to NMDC. Al Mazroui is satisfied with the performance of the Dulsco personnel that NMDC has hired. He says, “We have hired welders, fabricators, and others from Dulsco and are impressed with their work. We have several projects coming up and will have to outsource part of the required personnel to meet the demand. We hope to work more with Dulsco Abu Dhabi in the future”.
